On Friday 22nd of June, Age Better in Sheffield is hosting a Great Get Together event at the Niagara Conference and Leisure Centre in Hillsborough.
The Great Get Together initiative was first founded in 2017 in memory of the late Jo Cox and her commitment to ending loneliness and isolation for everyone living in the UK. Inspired by Jo’s belief that we have “more in common than that which divides us”, hundreds of people across the nation are hosting events between 22nd-24th June 2018.
Age Better in Sheffield’s free event also marks the third year, and midway point, of the city’s six-year programme, which is funded by the Big Lottery. To celebrate both of these occasions, there will be whole host of activities taking place between 11:30am and 2:30pm including food and drink, live music, poetry, walking football, exhibitions, and more.
Brooke Leigh, Programme Coordinator for Age Better in Sheffield, said “Great Get Together events are the perfect place to meet lots of friendly and welcoming people, and last year it was one of the highlights of our calendar.
“We’ve shaped this year’s event to include even more activities, and we welcome everyone from those who want to get stuck in, to those who enjoy soaking up the atmosphere, and those who might not have attended an event in the community before.
“Above all, the day is all about bringing people together, so if you know someone who might enjoy themselves at the event please spread the word amongst your friends, family, neighbours, and communities. We hope to see lots of you there!”
Free transport is available for anyone who otherwise would not be able to get to and from the event. To arrange this, please get in touch with someone from the Age Better in Sheffield team on 0114 2702 536.
